What’s the Deal With…

Posted on: June 23, 2010

women who take their large everyday purse with them when they go out?

The past few times I’ve been out, I’ve been noticing too many women carrying around huge bags while at a club/lounge/cocktail party/etc.  And it distresses me.

Ladies, for an evening out on the town, a clutch is your friend.  You are not meant to lug everything that’s in your daytime bag with you to an event or a nightspot.  Do you really need that book, your journal, your checkbook, hand sanitizer, snacks, your cellphone charger and other assorted items with you at the lounge?  I don’t think so.  Let’s downsize for one night, k?

Nowadays you can find a cute clutch almost anywhere, and often for dirt cheap.  I’ve found so many great clutches on sale, or in an outlet store.  You can find big ones that fit under your arm, little ones that fit in your hand, clutches with handles or even clutches with a wrist strap.  Please don’t let “I don’t want to carry my purse all night” be your reason why you’re bringing your huge bag to the club.  And “I don’t have enough room for my stuff” isn’t a good excuse either – for a night out you should only need space for your keys, cell phone, cash/credit card/ID, and lipgloss or lipstick.  That’s it.  Anything else is just extra & you can leave it at home.

Need some clutch inspiration to get you going?  Here are some that I like:

Kenneth Cole NY Let It Shine Small Clutch

I love this bag so much that I have it.  It is truly a small clutch, but for a formal or semi-formal night, its the perfect bag.  Buy it here.

MICHAEL Michael Kors Moxley Clutch

I’m telling you right now, THIS is the next bag I’m getting.  How fabulous is that?  It also comes in black and vanilla.  Buy it here.

Dooney & Bourke - Calf Medium Pleated Wristlet (Saddle)

A cute bag that actually works for day and evening, and the wrist strap makes it easy to carry.  Buy it here.

Hype Alexis Clutch

How cute is that?  Its got a little ruffle, almost like a skirt on a woman.  It also comes in white and pink.  Buy it here.

BIG BUDDHA Sasha Clutch

Another cute one with a wrist strap – I love the design, definitely a stand-out piece.  Buy it here.

Tell me about your fave clutches.  Do you have a fave designer or store?  Let me know!

I have a few clutches I love, no rhyme or reason to where I get them. my faves came from Target, H&M and little boutiques–in person or online. Basically if its cute and reasonably priced, its mine. I think I have a really small shoulder bag (short strap) from Express that I use from time to time that fits right under the armpit. I don’t spend a lot of money on those–my $$$ goes towards the medium and big bags.

I have a Rafe clutch that I love that came from Target. I wish he was still designing a Target line.

I love the Kenneth Cole clutch.
I’ve gotten the few clutches I have from ALDO…they’re usually reasonably priced. And I’ve gotten my wrislets from D&B and Coach…outlet stores of course. I live in FL where else would I get them.
I’m totally in agreement with no big (seemingly duffle) bags when you’re having a night out on the town. There’s just no point. Carry the essentials. And on a side note, add a condom to that essentials list. I’m not advocating anything but I’m assuming we’re all grown. And things happen.

You are absolutely right…ITA agree with throwing a condom in there too…why didn’t I think of that?

Aldo is the best for purses and accessories. I think one of mine came from there too, now that I think of it…
