Searching For Satisfaction

Movie Review: “Just Wright”

Posted on: May 14, 2010

I got a chance to attend a screening of “Just Wright” – the new romantic comedy featuring Common, Queen Latifah, and Paula Patton.

In case you’re not familiar with the premise, here’s the synopsis:

Leslie Wright, a straight-shooting physical therapist, gets the gig of a lifetime working with NBA All-Star Scott McKnight. All is going well until Leslie finds herself falling for Scott, forcing her to choose between the gig of a lifetime and the tug-of-war inside her heart. Oblivious to her romantic overtures, McKnight is instead drawn to the affections of Leslie’s gorgeous childhood friend Morgan, who has her sights set on being an NBA trophy wife. Is Leslie destined to play the role of “best friend” forever or will Scott finally see that what he always wanted is right in front of him?

The Good: This movie was really cute.  I like Queen Latifah as an actress & she doesn’t disappoint in this role.  Paula Patton plays her role of gold-digger well.  Common does a much better acting job in this film than he has in his past work, which was a plus.  He also looks so yummy delicious in this film!  I also liked the various cameos by current NBA players, like Dwayne Wade, Dwight Howard, and Elton Brand.

The Bad: My biggest complaint is that the film is so predictable, but then again, isn’t that the mark of a romantic comedy?  You knew what was going to happen, but I still enjoyed watching the film unfold.  The movie could have fleshed out the characters & their backgrounds a bit more, especially for Paula Patton’s character.

Verdict: Its a cute date movie or a great movie to catch for the matinee price.
